Bongo Fury

Hi All

I need a couple of new tyres for my Bongo. The ones the previous owner has on all four are:

Doublestar DS601 (195/70R15 C)

Is there anywhere I can get these and delivered to my house? Or is there any other ones I can get which do same job. Does it have to be same brand or can I get any 195/70R15 C and they will be fine?

Thanks. First time having to replace tyres and I will need them replaced for MOT. Looking for a budget seller if possible.

depends where you are, here in Wales I have a great local garage does tyres for mine, 215 65 15's all round £39.00 fully fitted. Accelera make, nangkangs too if preferred.

I most certainly WOULDN'T replace with 195/70's all round as that is not the correct size for the rear.
I agree with what Dave says, 215/65 is far better (in my opinion) for UK use and that is what I've been using for that last 4 years. Mine was on 195 all round when I got it and it handled like a pig compared to being on 215's.

Just make sure whatever you fit has a high enough load index 92 minimum for the front axle and 96 minimum on the rear.

If you get them delivered you are going to have to pay around £10 per wheel for fitting balance and disposal of the old tyre so factor that in to any price you pay.

And, Event Tyres (google for website) ...good all in prices and fit at your house/work,.... only pay AFTER fitting too, used them many times always excellent.

The myth about it being ok for 92's generally on the front is just that, a myth, 92S is listed for one specific size of 195/70R15, any other size is listed as 96S or 98S, check your door plate & handbooks people.
I am no tyre expert, but I would want to go for the maximum possible of 98S to cut down on any risk factors, especially if fitting larger tyres & running at higher speeds (than in Japan) & higher pressures. Not trying to scaremonger - just looking at the numbers.

Thanks for the advice. I am quite confused now though. At the moment it is only the front left tyre thats needs replacing. All the rest are in tip top shape. I take it I would have to change BOTH back tyres if I was changing size at all so should I stick to the same size 195/70 on the front one that needs replacing and then when the back ones start to wear, switch the back to 215/65?

Personally I'd use the two best 195/70's on the front (if they are rated high enough & not worn too much, to save the VC getting too much abuse by keeping the rolling diameter within @1%) then replace the two rears with a pair of 215/65 with a rating of at least 96S, preferrably more. Better to replace in pairs. Then if you've still got the crappy space saver spare tyre, if you can get hold of a 15" spare wheel, you may be able to use the other tyre as a spare.
Brand is irrelevant, but if the tyre has worn unevenly on one side, best get the tracking checked properly as well as getting the wheels balanced properly.

Probably worth checking the age of the tyres too, anything over 7 years is about due for replacement.

If you are traveling over to Ireland via Liverpool, you could not do better than call in on Wheelquick in Wigan before catching the ferry. The two Mikes will sort you out for new tyres and anything else that needs to be done to your Bongo. They sell tyres, import Bongos and service Bongos, not to mention supplying the odd bits and pieces from Bongos that they may be breaking.

Thanks for the advice on getting the tyres in Wigan. It will probably add another hour or so to my trip though. We are driving from Dover to Woodbridge, Suffolk on Sunday 21st. here is the route:

What is the difference here between so many tyres?? What load and speed should I look for? Which tyres would you recommend from these for my Bongo. (back tyres)

As was recommended I think I will move the two back tyres (195/70) to the front and then put the new 215/65 on the back.

215/65-15s should have the right load index (at LEAST 96) and I think "H" speed rating is enough but "V" is better.

Print that out and ask around locally to see if anyone can supply - that should save on carriage and extra fitting costs.

Thanks for that. I am going to order two of those and get them fitted locally. It would have cost me an extra 30-40 euro if I bought them here in Ireland and then got them fitted aswell. Cheaper to buy in UK get them delivered here and then fitted locally.
