Bongo Water Pump

hi guys

I have started to need to top my coolant
every day. Alarm keeps going off. Had a look under the van when hot and am finding a good drip coming down from the plastic sump guard. Do you think it could be a hose problem or a water pump problem. Where is the water pump located and accessed from in the bongo. I have a diesel 4x4 1996

Thanks

Graeme

if it's the pump, this is the likely leaking spot

Hi

But how do you access the water pump to get a look at it. From the bonnet, under passenger seat or from below?

From below - on yer back.
It's stuated at the front of the engine just behind the undertray. To see if it has a leak as shown in the above link, you need to remove the pump pulley....and the undertray???

You should be able to access it from above by lifting the seats, at least to check all the hoses etc & you should be able to get a finger in to feel for wetness on the pump, but to check everything out properly, the undertray is best coming off (don't take the sump off though as suggested earlier or you'll get covered in oil  ).
Pointless speculating where it may be leaking from, could be anywhere (hoses, metal pipes, connections, gaskets, etc), need to get in & get eyes & hands on, check for swollen hoses, pinholes, waterstaining.
If you need to repair or replace anything, make sure you know how to bleed it properly & make sure you're not mixing coolants or reducing the coolant concentration too much by topping up with water.

Thanks for that. I replaced the radiator about a year ago so know how to go about doing the coolant bleeding. Can probably get it up on a mates ramps on Thursday and will probably go ahead and get a water pump ordered but just in case. Sposed to be off of holiday in her next week. Damned awful timing lol

you can get into see the telltale (leak spot in steves link) using one of the angle head dentist type mirrors.
if you decide to replace the pump its a couple of hours work including bleeding, and worth doing.
