LPG 10k mile Service

Im over due on this by a few thousand miles but am in Wales next week so have provisionally booked it in. However it is a £50 charge ... so does anyone know what is done during this 'service' is it similar to the 1000 mile service which only involved a 'recalibration' of the ECU settings to get better fuel economy/performance etc? I know if i miss it it will invalidate warranty but its running so well that im almost of the mind not to tinker with it ...

What are people's experiences and knowledge (rather than just thoughts) on this please?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Flossie,
you're ahead of me in the mileage stakes on LPG, I've only done 6000 miles since conversion.
We both used ProFess Autogas, so are singing off the same hymsheet.
I queried what a service involved at my first "bedding in service" at 1000 miles. It is a change of gas filters ( don't know whether they will supply them for self fit ), and a road test to reset the ECU. I bought the optional CD and link in connector, and they said I could do a "service" over the phone, and they would tell me what to do. Obviously this would not include filters.
I don't know what else they do, but I will be returning at 10,000 miles with mine, as when in slow moving traffic snarl ups, I can smell LPG, so want a leak test carried out.
Currently averaging 21.6 mpg on LPG. Only ever had 2 tanks of petrol in her as converted directly after purchase, so don't know mpg on petrol.
Give them a call, as you know, they're a nice bunch of lads

Ah thats really useful - thanks

Must admit Dad mentioned he could smell brussel sprouts when we were in it the other night but given we were carrying 3 large dogs (including 2 rescues we had just collected) it could have been either source

Hi,

An LPG service comprises of changing the LPG filter or filters (depending on system), a gas leak test and a general once over to check the LPG pipework, security of fittings like tank etc, and a scan of the ECU codes and parameters. They will do all the work so you don't need to change any filters yourself.

I don't recall ever smelling the LPG gas on any LPG car I've had, unless whilst filling, or in one case I had a leaking multivalve that was changed on a Smart car, so it's worth getting that checked out. You can buy your own gas leak detector spray on ebay etc fairly cheaply if you are worried in the meantime but like house gas, it has the smell added and a very small amount of gas can smell quite bad.

21MPG is about right as an average.

As an aside, it's a good idea to run it on petrol occasionally to prevent the petrol injectors from suffering from gumming up. Also worth considering adding the occasional bottle of injector cleaner to the petrol. I also kept my petrol tank full when the weather was cooler as I was concerned any condensation could lead to rust in the tank.

£50 for an LPG service is a good price.

Thanks for comments. I'll certainly take your advice regarding petrol to stop the injectors seizing,
There's definitely a smell of LPG at very low speeds, but haven't a clue where it's from. As the tank had not emptied itself, it must be after the vapouriser,
I'll check out the leak detector on ebay

Apole says it all, the sprays are ok for diy use, I use a snap on combustible gas detector which will sniff down to 1 part per million and check all joints with it etc also use it in camper conversions to check everything there.

The stench agent in LPG is very strong and it is not unussual to smell it or remains of it around the exhaust and also on occasion around the air intake at the front of the vehicle as a trace can waft back up the intake system.

They will plug in and check for fault codes etc whilst doing the service, well worth £50, bit harsh to invalidate warranty if missed though.
