Odometer stopped working

Hi all

I bought a Bongo earlier this year and the Oddometer has stopped turning at exactly 114000 miles. The seller had all the MOTs etc to show that it stopped some time last year. He said he spoke to a mechanic and he thinks it would need to have entire dashboard taken out etc to fix.

has anyone had this before and is it a big job to get fixed? It looks like the dial is just stuck on that figure. I asked the guy who serviced it for me last and he wasn't sure, he also said he would have to open it all up to see where fault is.

Thanks

There're a couple of factsheets in the members area on the speedo, that may help you get it out, it's not difficult, there are four screws holding the surround in place around the display then once that's out, having lowered the steering wheel, there're 4 screws holding the cluster in place. Has yours got a speedo chip (& is the speedo itself working) or has it had the faceplate changed to read MPH, or has it been replaced with a GA5R speedo? The odometer from the factory clocks up in km, so yours may be lower mileage than you thought.

is there an annoying clicking sound by any chance  .and have you been polishing the plastic binacle.
try pressing the speedo zero button hard, it may just be that that is partially engaged on the common drive.

has the clock been 'recalibrated' (wound back!) to read miles? if so depending on the technique, the odomter barrel can slip and not count up, or could just be battered, as the reading is on 00 i'd consider the latter as if the numbers are'nt aligned properly the odometer will clock to 00 the stop, as said, pullig the dash out is quite easy and only takes few minutes, then pull the binacle apart, undo the 4 screws behind the speedo section of the unit and you can wiggle it out

Ok I will try pulling it all out on Sunday when I am back in UK. In response to your other questions:
The speedometer is working fine. What is a "speedo chip"?
has it had the faceplate changed to read MPH, or has it been replaced with a GA5R speedo
I have no idea. I don't think so, the last owner mentioned nothing about this. He just said the little dials stopped turning at exactly 114000.

Is there any way I can find out if it has been modified to read miles?? I have all the paperwork going back to 2005 but nothing before that. Im not sure when it was imported, I'd have to look through paperwork again.

No there is no clicking sound. I tried pushing the button hard and anything i could think of but no luck.

Hi everyone

So i took the dashboard off and got into the odometer. I tried to realign it a bit and moved it to 114001 but at the same time I managed to someone move it to 124001!! (Darn!!)

Anyway, good news is that it now works! And it is definitely kilometers and not miles as I drove it a bit and used my GPS for distance. So good news is that even with the extra 10000 my finger put on its still MUCH less than 114000 miles that I thought it had!

Im guessing I can't reverse that 10000 my finger did though yeh?

You can alter it to read what you want (hence I'd never trust what it says without paperwork history  ) - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... e+odometer

Thanks for that. Very true about the history. The last owner has all his MOTs for last 5 years and it has the mileage listed each time on it so I'm pretty sure it is all real.

On the MOT it was always listed as "miles" but Im guessing that is just because the previous owner never thought (like me till now) that it would be in km since the speedometer is primarily in miles. He must have wondered how he racked up so many miles though!

He would be very happy thinking he was getting about 48 miles to the gallon.
