Want to put new belts on aircon & alternator, have searched archives & found diagram depicting locking & adjustment bolts but cannot get into the aircon belt area to see if belt routed properly, do I have to remove the top engine cover housing the handbrake & auto gearshift, if so does it just remove without disconnecting anything, if so what.
As you will probably know by now I`m a Bongo `virgin` (not from Inverness) and have been exploring my recent purchase & have found various issues that have been posted on the forum. have quite a few senior moments therefore need to have things explained to me in simple terms.
Thanks in anticipation
Bob

If you can't see from above by lifting the seats, then you should be able to see from below looking from front to back. Make sure you don't overtighten the belts or you'll knacker the bearings, should be able to get a 90 degree twist on the longest length as a rule of thumb.

i always route the belts by feel, with the alternator belts fitted there's no where else it can really go lol dont think removing the top cover would benefit you much as the cambelt cover is still in the way, just stick your arm in there, loop the crank pulley first, then up to the pump then over the tensioner.
To remove the top cover, undo 2x12mm holding the gear select, the from drivers side remove the inner/lower trim panel and you'll find another 12mm bolted from front to back, remove and the gear select is free, unplug handbrake, seatbelt warning, pull out the scavenger fan sensor, unplug gear selector and remaining loom fixing points and loom can be pulled forward into the passenger footwell, now undo all the 10mm bolts and the panel can be slid out from under the gear select and stood up (backwards) with the handbrake still atatched

It seems like its a touchy feely situation- Ms FX70 -worried about the 90 degree twist advice as my old bones won`t make it especially with dodgy fingers from juggling with a circular saw some years ago, but can still wave to other drivers with two 5ths of my left hand thanks to a good surgeon. but rule of thumb is dificult if you ain`t got one thats moveable.

Hi, with a V profile belt you are looking at a deflection at the middle of the longest run of the belt of 15mm,you only need one digit/finger or a bit of stick.
All the best..
