Bongo Fury

I had to have a new LPG control unit fitted because the distributor cap/rotor arm was worn out and managed to fry the electronics with the excessive emissions produced. At least as far as we can tell.
I replaced the distributor and rotor arm with non Mazda replacements (due to the non availability of the parts) before getting the replacement control unit replaced but that proved to be just as bad and fried the replacement. Luckily, because I have a nice LPG installer, a replacement control unit was provided under warranty!
With the genuine parts installed, there has been no problem at all. The non Mazda parts worked perfectly when driving on petrol but the interference was very noticeable with a meter in the engine compartment until the genuine parts were installed.
The lesson was well learned and if having LPG installed, best practice is to change the ignition components as well with genuine parts for best (or any) performance. I wish my original installer had done that, it cost me dear and the LPG performance is now better than it has ever been. Smoother tickover, quicker switchover etc.
I have been away from the group for a while but have dropped in occasionally.

Do the later V6 Bongos have distributors or are they electronic ignition? If so, when did they change over?

Thanks, I understand that they do - but my question was whether newer V6 Bongos have electronic ignition instead of a distributor. I may just be getting my terminology mixed up.

As Haydn's is a New Shape V6, I think he's basically saying V6s whether old or new shape all have a distributor.

Well that cleared that up.
