Bongo Fury

Can anyone dare tell me the rough ball park cost of a 100,000mile service. My 2.5TD 4WD is in at the minute for the works and I'm waiting with bated breath for the outcome! It's being done by a non Bongo specialist garage but it's a garage that I trust and know very well. Not only that but I've just bought new wheels/tyres, replaced the whole exhaust and done a glow plug change myself. Moneypit is springing to mind?

I'm sorry I can't guesstimate this for you - all I've had done, I've done myself.

One thing worth phoning them for is to find out if they will be replacing the coolant. If so, make sure they know about bleeding, as Bongos are unlike most (any?) other vehicle. Videos on youtube might be helpful.

Are you having the cam belt and tensioners replaced? Mine were done at 37,500 miles and I was told to get them replaced at about 100,000. I think those on the forum that know will suggest you check your service records.

Don't let them change the coolant unless YOU are 100% sure that they know how to bleed it afterwards......take them the factsheet and get them to watch the youtube vid's (search bleeding Bongos)

Every garage thinks they know how to bleed every vehicle.....Bongo's are NOT straight forward and getting it wrong can lead to huge bills...

Ask them if they know where the bleed point is...if they say anything other than..."under the passenger seat..a thin hose with a bung in the end" do not drive it away from the garage..

I'm having the belt, tensioner etc all replaced. Thanks for the tips about the coolant. Will speak to them tomorrow. The guys are pretty good and usually listen if there are any oddities. Any other top tips? I like usuing this garage as they're honest, good mechanics and never try to rip you off. Once they get this service done then at least they'll know for future reference. Hopefully I can add them as Bongo savy to the list and save myself an 3 hour round trip to Aberdeen every time!

Well got it back today after 1 week. The garage was very helpful and even phoned for info if they weren't 100% sure. All in, including fluids/filters, sundries, timing belt kit (bought by me) fitted, fitted new wheels, traced starting fault and a whole list of others - £632.35. Fitted a complete new exhaust on top of that as well! I have to say though it is driving, sounding and looking a lot healthier.

Will probably attempt most stuff myself from here on but at least the guys at my local garage have had hands on and know part of their way around it now.
