spare tyre

Post by davema » Wed Feb 29, 2012 6:57 pm

just purchased my first bongo, 95 model, it appears that the hook is seized on the spare tyre housing (it looks like it has never been used) as a result i effectively have no spare. any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Plenty of penetrating oil may free it ... but would you really use / trust a 17+ year old tyre anyway ..??

It looks a very simple mechanism, can you not spray some WD40 down the winding hole and back up from underneath the tyre ?

The spare wheel hangs on the end of a cable which has the hook attached to its end. It is just a simple wind up and down mechanism.

The cable can be wound up either way, so try turning it clockwise in case the previous owner wound it up the wrong way.

success! liberal spaying overnight with "wd40" & hey presto down she came. took the spare to a tyre shop who said it was ok & a good cleaning with "copper grease" & all is well. thanks to all who replied, much appreciated.

Now go and find a full sized Bongo wheel and fit a new(er) tyre to it. In fact I might know a man who can
