EGR or a bigger issue

Is the red circled component important to my Bongo well-being?
Whilst tinkering earlier, it stopped engaging when starting. I traced it to the what I think is the EGR system and hope it is not important.
If it isn't important, what is the Blue circled part that is connected?
Any help appreciated. It is not moving as normal although an audible click is heard from the unit by the solenoid at the top of the engine.

It's controlled by the vacuum solenoids & lifts the tick over on cold start & when the AC is on... The solenoid will slack off when the engine comes up to temp..
You can adjust the rpm on idle when its activated with the screw in the red circle.
My circles run a little rougher round the edges than yours....

If I blank off the EGR, will this become redundant?

In short no.. Think of this gubbins as a sort of automatic "Choke"?? ( I hope that's right?)
Its controlled by these two solenoids in the centre of the picture.. They do all share the same vacuum feed, but the egr blank shouldn't affect it..

get those circles tidied up you scruffy man

.
as jay says it will stop working when the coolant temp gets up to running temp. approx 50 deg c. try it in the morning when its been stood a while.
if its still not working as it should check the little pipes to and from the 2 solenoids(they break off) then the 2 connecting pipes to the beutifully blue circled item

Thankyou.
That makes sense. It must have stopped working when the engine was hot. I thought I'd bust it. It is working again now. Another lesson learned.

Even when up to temp, you should have the solenoid on the right come on during idle when the AC is activated... The rad fans should kick in too!
