Intermittent blower...

Hi all,

I hope someone can help. I know the heater blower/resistor queries have been done to death but I have a slightly stranger issue. When driving with the aircon on I can select all fan speeds no problem and have a very healthy air flow from all vents for about 10-15 mins, then I get what looks like condensation from the vents in the form of mist. Shortly after that the airflow will almost stop through the vents. The only way to get it back is to turn off the aircon, leaving the fan on the same selected setting, then as everything "warms" up the airflow slowly starts up again. When the airflow stops I can hear the blower still going and I have checked all the linkages.

The best I can come up with is that something maybe getting blocked with condensation when the aircon is on but then clears when the aircon is switched off.

My Bongo is a 96 Tintop 2.5 TD 2WD with manual heater controls.

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Russell.

Sort of sounds like the evaporator (61-J10) is freezing up, I wonder if its partially blocked with crud, that gets wet when cooled down and then freezes cutting of the cold air flow, then warms up again and all works for a while ? http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

Could be low gas. condensor has a dynamic seal and can lose up to 15% charge per year of operation. best fix is to have it regassed, topping up is not recommended as you don't know how much you have or if there is enough lubricant.

Thanks for the replies. I'll answer each one in turn.

That sounds about right. I have been in there and cleaned it out before but perhaps I'll have another go. :(

Yep the fans come on no problem.

I don't think it can be the gas as it still blows cold, just not very hard.
I think I'll get in and clean out the evaporator again and report back. Thanks again for the replies.
