Bongo Fury

Hello There,

To celebrate my bongo being fixed after a break-in and then some dodgy garage work i've decided to get a double din, sat nav, TV, bluetooth head unit to replace my single din stereo and cubby box.

I've had a good search on here for a relevant post but can't seem to find what i'm after. Appologies if this has been done before though.

I need to cut out the section that splits the 2.1din hole into 2X single din sections. Once I've done this, does anyone have any tips on how best to secure the double din cage given that the hole is 2.1din. I dont really want a gap around the stereo (top or bottom) once the stereo is in (like I have seen in one of the posts).

Anyone got any experience of this and how best to achieve it?

Hi Tom,

I have a double din unit in my van, an Alpine CDE W203Ri and the cage that came with that unit fits snug in the aperture and is held in place solely with fold down tabs in the cage itself and does not move around. Prior to this I had a Xtrons TD716G but that needed me to buy a 110mm cage http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CT23UN02-110m ... 2565c2bff7 because the cage that came with this unit left a gap so in my experience it depends on what is supplied with the head unit. A small piece of advice, there is not a huge amount of depth behind the dash so check out the measurements before you buy. Hope this helps.

There really isn't much room. After I wrote the article linked above, i installed a 12V freeview box - but had to drill out a larger hole in the retainer bracket at the back of the 2.1x DIN space so that the wire could be plugged in. It was a tight squeeze, but works.
