We've just enjoyed a trip to these beautiful islands in wonderful weather. I wish I was a better photographer, but I thought I'd share some of the photos that almost came out as planned.

First couple of nights were spent in Skye - looks like we just missed several other forum members while there.

Staffin camp site.

Unfortunately we also experienced one of our worst ever midge invasions while there. Taken while hiding in the Bongo.

The wonderful views at Cuith-Raing pass between Staffin and Uig.

Approaching Tarbert by ferry. The Minch.

We're back on land.

Our first stop over in the Outer Hebrides at the wonderful Uig sands.

Here's why they are so named.

Cars E reg model - we kept seeing this 86 fiesta converted van. It was immaculate.

The Callinish Stones

Yes, that really was the bridge to nowhere

Is it really wild camping when you have loos next door?

Had to take a pic - unknown mix of kms and miles

Overlooking Scarpa at Huisinish. Glad we didn't plan on wild camping as the main beach was like Sauchiehall St by the time we left.

Our favourite Wild Camp in North Uist. At low tide it was all golden beach.

We were really lucky to have no rain but every evening these clouds appeared to prevent me getting a sunset pic.

More Uist scenery

Thanks to David for some pointers on places to stay. If anyone else fancies a visit feel free to message me for tips on where to stay. There are few camp sites and many are poor. However there are some great wild camping spots. Don't let the lack of facilities put you off. These are stunning islands and I can't believe I haven't visited before. I will be back!

Overlooking Scarpa at Huisinish
Hi Tallbongo. Great photos, reminds me of when I spent a week tent camping at Huisinish while digging ditches for the John Muir Trust and the North Harris Trust in 2006 and then dropping in for a quick look with my June in the Bongo in 2007. A really peacefull place to stay that does not cost you a brass fathing, which is a rearity in these money grabbing days.

But your photo has got me confused, the island does not seem to be boot shaped to me. :-k I wear a pair of Scarpa boots for walking in the hills but if I remember right Scarp was the island that the rocket mail rained down on when it was still habitated before the war.

Thanks for the comments. Yes a lovely place to spend some time and so different from the mainland. I'm not sure I could live there full time though.

Tony, I'm getting the slightest inkling that you may be feigning your confusion. Just in case you really are in mental torment, I tried to eliminate the offending "a". :) Unfortunately the forum rules won't let me so my typo will just have to stay on the record and you'll have to stay confused.

Taken, you only have a few minutes to correct your mistakes to keep your original intentions. If another post comes up before you make changes it shows. This is the result of changes to the way the forum works following too many arguements on it in the past.

I've made lots of similar mistakes in the past, you just have to have a look at some of my old posts.
