Has anyone driven to cannes or nice?
I'd like to see the monaco grannd prix next year and thinking of driving down to nice.
Day1 dover to chaumont
Day2 carry on passing cannes, to antibes
Day3 carry on to nice
the ferry to calais or roscoff from plymouth would be nearer for me than dover.
If you have any alternative routes please let me know.

Re: Cannes - Nice
I'm south of France at the moment.... I'm about 2 hours away from nice. I did swindon to folkestone 2:45 hours Calais to Troyes ~5:45 hours. Then second day I did Troyes to les salles sur verdon in just under 8 hours. With stops every 1:45-2 hours for a break and fuel. I took toll roads all the way down and went through Lyon. Nice drive actually.
Stayed in a f1 hotel just outside Troyes, 35 euros for a bed and warm showers. Plus breakfast, its 29 without breakfast.
You could find somewhere just after Lyon to stay if you wanted to break it into 3 days! The A8 which was the last toll I was on went on to Cannes.

I'm a bit confused. What do you mean by "the ferry to calais or roscoff from plymouth would be nearer for me than dover"
I thought the crossing was Dover - Calais or am I missing something?

Stefan - Did you actually drive through Lyon or use the autoroute by passes? Sorry to ask, but we always used to avoid Lyon like the plague as it could take 3/4 hours to get through years ago (Mind you that was from 1970 to 1980!!!

A6 that turns into the a7. Go over a couple of bridges, through a tunnel. Runs along the river, go past the port. Was on a Monday about 10am. Maybe we got Lucky..... on the map it looked pretty central!
