Best hassle-free awning for solo camper

Post by digitalgypsy » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:19 am

Hello chaps,
Just wondering if anyone can recommend a suitable awning...

I'm going to be away in my Bongo quite often, possibly living in it! I'll be away by myself so the most important thing is how easy and quick it is to erect the awning. It would also be really good to find an awning that could fit the side AND the rear/tailgate. I have the factory kitchen and love the extended hose which is used when hooked up to the boot door when open. So the main criteria would be:

- Easy to erect for solo camper
- Attached to side and rear
- Enough room for 2 people sleep in, no need for any larger

At the moment I'm considering the Outdoor Revolution Touring XS: http://www.campingandleisure.co.uk/acat ... ng-xs.html Anyone own one of those?

Thanks for your help as always, any input is always appreciated.

As a solo camper myself I went for the Khyam Motordome Tourer;

Not cheap but if you look online you may find a code on a VW owner's site that works and will provide a bit of a discount.

A very easy and quick to erect awning (~2-3 mins) as the poles are built in and just lock into place - none of that threading poles through loops and along seams. Supplied with the figure of eight strips to attach to the side but if you wanted to attach it to the rear you'd have to use some clamps.
