Anyone wanting to stay near Alton Towers this site is excellent.
We stayed at the weekend, plenty of space, hardstanding, grass at the side for awnings and hookup for £16/night. Very friendly owners and no problem with dogs. Pubs about half a mile away and Alton Towers about 2 miles. Playground for kids as well.

Their website is still under construction but does has an availability calender which is handy.

Looks great. Is there a bus into Alton Towers, could spend a weekend relaxing while the kids go and do the rides :)

Looks like there is, the site is between Alton and Denstone.

I've stayed at a few of the campsites around Alton Towers: Star Camping (nearest to the theme park), one on the Cannock road, one in a quarry and in one front of a pub - Raddle Inn, I think. All have facilities. Nowadays, my son prefers to do the trip in one day and as long as he drives, I don't mind. Me, I would prefer to make a weekend of it cos I love the camping too!

Next Alton Towers trip is planned for Scarefest - woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
