We were going to go and join the the fun at Nantcol but looking at the weather we decided we needed some sun so headed east instead to the Humber. Another advantage was that it is FLAT. Bongo managed nearly 31mpg. Now thinking of moving to Holland. :)

Looking over towards Grimsby & Immingham oil terminal.

Never having been to the end of Spurn Point we got in at Bluebell Pond at Kilnsea, (cracking little site) Pub five minutes walk.

Lovely clean beach about 3 minutes walk. Free car park and loos. Good caff.

Image
The remains of the Godwin Battery where large guns were sited to protect the Humber. This used to be on dry land but has eroded away dumping the battery on the beach

Image
Spurn Point-goes about 3miles out into the estuary. Once belonged to the army but now is part of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

Heading out to the end

The army had a railway track all the way along, now mostly covered by the shifting sand.

The jetty out to the Humber lifeboat and the Humber Pilot boats.

Grimsby lighthouse and Immingham in the distance.

Image
Lots of shipping going up and down on the tide

Image
The old original lighthouse looking back to the Yorkshire mainland in the far distance.

Image
The present day lighthouse looking across the estuary to Lincolnshire.

The really thin bit, looking back to the shore-North sea on the right, Humber estuary on the left

Looking towards the end.

Sunset on the Point.

Evening fishing

Nearly gone

Next day we went to have a look at this

Image

Image
This is a sound mirror, apparently there were a whole line of them on the East coast built during WW1. The Germans were using Zeppelins to bomb east coast towns and these were built to detect the sound of their engines. Sound was reflected back to a microphone on top of the metal post. Wires led back to a trench where some poor squaddy had to sit and listen.

back via Hull and over the Humber Bridge

Some nice shots there Brian. I've not been to that neck of the woods - yet

Can you drive down to the tip or is it bikes only?

Yes you can drive down Paul, cost £3 though, free to walk/bike.
First bit of the road for about a mile is made of concrete blocks about a foot square, just about shakes you to bits on a bike.

Really great pics there Briwy - Muzorewa standard, and a really interesting and different locality. But who's the best photographer. There's only one way to settle this:

Keep a close eye on him Briwy. While he's eating oatcake with one hand, he could be going for his camera with the other.

Great pics, thanks.

We were just there mid July, wonderful place. I've an idea it is the only full time Lifeboat Station, and they are changing the shift patterns and living arrangemments as the kids often don't get to school due to weather.

The landlady at the pub was 'Interesting'. :?
