Lovely thought Ian. They were a lovely couple and I hope we'll still see Paulette from time to time.

Phil Jones (Bigbear) has decided to hang his camping gear up and is calling it a day after 16 years in the club. His membership number is 267 and he has been a regular attender at Bongo Fury meetings since 2005. We have awarded him Lifetime Membership so he can still keep contact with the many friends he has met over the years. Cheers Phil!

In case you missed it elsewhere Geoff ("Two V6s") Mather was awarded Bongonaut of the Year for 2021 for all his hard work behind the scenes.

Congratulations to Richard Dass, Bongonaut of the Year 2022. This was awarded in his absence at this year's AGM. Here's a summary of his amazing achievements.

On hearing news of a refugee crisis in Ukraine, Huddersfield based Bongo Fury member Richard Dass felt he had to do something so loaded up his Bongo with medical supplies and off he went. On arrival he was shocked by what he found. “The situation was a lot worse than I thought. People have nowhere to sleep except the concrete floor of the rail and bus stations. In the train station there are hundreds of people dazed, wondering where to go next.”

He decided to stay and put his Bongo to good use by ferrying victims of Russia’s “special military operation” across the border into Slovakia where he has friends that can arrange further transit and documentation. “But”, Richard explained, “the roads are full of potholes and craters and the poor Bongo’s 25 year old suspension needed urgent attention”. Fortunately, after a battle with the bureaucrats, our Bongoland shop was able to send replacement parts free of charge.

Richard has now turned his attention to obtaining some specialist equipment; a vacuum therapy apparatus. This is used by surgeons to pull together the wounds of the seriously injured especially victims of bomb blasts. “These machines are absolutely vital” says Richard. “Every doctor says the same thing. But they are in short supply”.

If you think you can assist Richard in any way, by making a donation to his fuel costs perhaps, then visit his Facebook page at

Carol Davidson has been awarded Bongonaut of the Year for 2023 for helping the Bongomaster through the most difficult 6 months of his life. The club wouldn't still be in existence if it wasn't for her support. Cheers Carol.
