Bongo Fury

Its not in the book cos i've looked!! anyone have any idea what the crank endfloat should be on a 2000 2.5TD bongo?? have 1 that has about 10mm and has apparently destroyed 2 gearboxes (according to the customer/mazda dealer). Personally thought there was enough movement space in the input shaft/torque converter but apparently not! Have checked on couple of engines on the floor and it seems more like 3-4mm, just wondering if anyone has come across this before?

In case anyone ever comes across this problem! there are 4 shims placed either side of the central shell, if 1 slips it allows movement which in turn destroys the remaining 3 and allows the crank to float, which (apparently) in turn mashes the input shaft intio the gearbox and your up the creek! so suggestion for anyone who's developed gearbox problems for an unknown reason, stick a bar behind the crank pulley and give it a wiggle, see how much float you have!

PS the shims are Thrust bearings Standard sizes are 2.455 to 2.5680.

10mm is quite excessive then!

The bongo involved was a 2.5d automatic and the parts that caused the problem are numbered 23-201 ON THIS DIAGRAM
