I hate Fosters. Can you make one out of an empty Bailey's bottle?

It isn't about the cost. It s a joy to many people to craft something with a few simple tools, preferably out of scrap material. If you can do it on the hoof it is a usefil skill although if I was that desperate for a brew I would light a fire :)

Fires are dirty, but as anyone who was at the last Red Squirrel meet will tell you, that didn't bother me much! These little stoves are very clever, but just don't sit on by accident. I knocked up a fire one night using an old stainless toilet brush holder turned upside down, and the innards of a toaster to make a little fire basked in the lid. Then topped a beer can and made a handle and hanger out of coat hanger, and hey presto - boiling water.

A couple of months ago, my then 5 month pregnant wife and I took the boy away in the van for a night to meet up with another family. A few hours after arriving on site, it finally twigged with my better half that I had in fact decided not to bring the gas stove at all, and rely purely on fire.

It went something like this...

M: I didn't bring the gas stove, I figured we didn't need it.
Z: What?!?!?!!!!
M: I didn't bring the gas stove.
Z: What do you mean you didn't bring it?
M: I didn't bring the gas stove. I told you I wasn't going to bring it.
Z: No you didn't.
M: I did. I made a point of telling you because I wanted to see your reaction.
Z: I can't have been listening. Was I stressed about something?
M: ... I picked my moment.

From the first request for coffee in the morning until the time she actually got a mug in her hands was about an hour.

Even though it was raining, I was at peace. She was not.

Funny, it only takes Ray Mears a few seconds to make the fire and roast asome meat!. My old Coleman Lead free petrol/ Coleman Fuel stove is the fastet boiler O have come across, brilliant little job.

Me Dad had a meths stove we used to take on pic nics and a wet foam rubber jacket for the milk bottle! :D
