Recommended garage around Glasgow or Edinburgh area

Hi guys

Bought my 1995 Bongo campervan 3 weeks ago on a well known auction site.
It runs pretty well and the interior has been professionally converted - I'm pretty happy overall.
Underneath however is a lot rustier than expected.
I'm hoping that's it's mostly surface rust, but I'd like to get it checked, repaired and wax oiled or undersealed. The previous owner advertised it as waxoiled, but I'm not convinced it has been done.

I'll try to upload some photos tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend a garage in Central Scotland that could help me out please ?

Cheers
Phil

Try Bongobill here. We bought out Bongo from him and I know he has done plenty to help fellow Bongonauts out

+1 for Bill. If he's fit, he'll be one the ground looking under it before you've got the keys out. =D>

Photos here of what appears to be a 'good' job.

The invoice I have for post-import work done has a £50 underseal. You're probably talking £200-£400 for a full-on job, washed and dried overnight in a warm room, primed and sealed, all the internal panels and box sections lanced, etc. Watch the rear arches, both inner and outer. Also pay attention to the wishbones at the front as there have been a few heavily corroded ones fail.

Let us know if you're going to come up this way.

Matt.

Last I heard the lease on Bill's Kirkcaldy garage had run out and he was without a home. He was hoping to move back to his old premises at Lathalmond in a few months. I suggest that you give him a ring as he might have found somewhere in the meantime.

Thanks Dave

Unfortunately Bill's not available to do the work on my Bongo.

Does anyone know anyone else who will do a good job of welding and rust prevention work in Scotland ?

My cross members, wheelarches and sills are pretty rotten and need a lot of work :(

Cheers
Phil

Matt (Driver & Passengers) Garage. If you can get past his wife.

Seriously I would try to find a smaller town garage like Bill's. Labour per hour is rather heavy around Glasgow and Edinburgh.

There was a post only a few days ago in the technical section about buying and replacing front cross members.

I can't weld but I can recommend you a couple of welders round here, about 20 minutes from Bill's place. There is also a bodyshop across the yard from where Bill had his workshop in Kirkcaldy which should still be trading and who will no doubt have serviced Bill's customers as and when.

Bill tells me his guys have now set up in Leven. Email him for more details (apparently he left his phone in a customer's van - not sure if he has it back yet).

Cheers - I found out that they had relocated in Leven as my van keys ended up there :D

I'll drop Bill another email tonight.
