Stupid question about fog lamps

Post by alimey » Fri Dec 21, 2012 8:27 pm

I have a 2002 Bongo with fog lamps under the headlamps. I can see that the headlamps turn on via the right stalk & pushing the stalk away undips them. But I can't find out how to turn the fog lamps on - there doesn't seem to be a button anywhere?

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Have you tried the front foglight switch ;) (as seen to the right of the headlamp adjuster control). They just need the sidelights on, but if yours still don't work, try the fuse or if that's ok, it could be the bulbs that have blown.

Hi Simon - thanks very much for the picture, it was very kind of you. I will have a look tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I don't have this switch. I have the headlight adjustment switch - but I think I've got the low coolant alarm one side & my alarm/immobiliser light the other side.

I'll ask Fred at Discount Trucks when it goes in for its next service. Thanks for at least reassuring me I'm not going mad - I did wonder if it was a Bongo special & the switch was under the sun visor perhaps . . .

Who knows? Simon & I have very very similar 2002 Bongos - so I would have thought we should have had the same switches. But apparently not. Fred fitted the coolant alarm - so he wouldn't have removed my foglight switch. But I am also sure that the alarm guy wouldn't have done it either.

There are plenty of 'blank' switches around - so I guess I will probably just ask Fred to wire one of those in . . .

Headlight adjuster are only fitted on the late models with the HID (Xenon) bulbs.

Did youget it MOTd localy?

They must have checked the fog light so could show you where the switch is.

As they are fitted on import the position will vary.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Right - well there is definitely no button that I can find. I'll ask Fred - maybe there is a trick. Or maybe the lights didn't work & someone removed the button??

Just a thought..

Would it be rigged up so the rear fog light button (a legal requirement in the UK.) also switch on the front fogs too???

It's always possible they're just not wired up. My previous Bongo had the lamps but no bulb holders or wiring or switch. Was planning on wiring them in but never got round to it. There is no legal requirement to have front fog lamps, although the MOT rules are tending to go down the route that if things are fitted, then they should be working and safe.

Just got my 2001, which has fr fogs fitted but they are not wired up, just the wires coming off them.
Will the harness be there already just to add a switch?

I reckon either the entire wiring is missing - or possibly just the switch. Never mind - good thing I realised. A job for the venerable Fred - I think I am still within the warranty period & Discount Trucks have been fantastic about that side of things.
