Bongo Fury

Evening folks. Just been out spannering the Bongo. Changed the oil, fuel filter and battery. It'd been a while since I lifted the seats, and discovered the tell-tale signs of a leak coming from where the top hose(i think) goes into the drivers side of the block, just above the water pump. I haven't actually seen it leaking yet, as it was getting dark by the time I fired it up.

If it is that particular hose that's leaking, I'm thinking it would be better to find a correctly sized jubilee clip to wrap around the end of the hose, without disconnecting it. I could then just bleed it from there. Am I right?

its one of the hoses goes first and if it has never been replaced i would change it

Forgot to say that. Ours has had a new rad and main hoses, so they look in fairly good nick. Hence why I'm hoping not to disconnect it.

Hi,
If the leak is from the end of the hose where it's pushed onto the water pump, then I would have expected that tightening up the clip that is fitted should do the job. Or perhaps new clip that is broader than the old one, so that is effectively sealing more hose surface to the water pump outlet.
As you have said that new hoses had been fitted, perhaps the water pump outlet was not cleaned up before the hose was pushed on. I find when changing hoses there is often a build up of scale/corrosion often caused by the alloy becoming corroded/reacting with antifreeze. I always wire brush the inlet/outlets that the pipes go onto to ensure that the surfaces are clean and smooth to enable best possible sealing.

They also do a hose repair tape

Head gasket sealer is probably bit OTT for a leaky hose joint . I would remove the pipe, clean the alloy mating surface and then refit with a new clamp & a smear of Hylomar gasket compound. Then full bleed of the system.
