how do I adjust gear selector

Hi Guys- Bongo virgin here.
Just bought a 1999 new shape 2.5td auto . The gearbox works fine and it was replaced 6 months ago:- however the selector needs to be adjusted. Occasionally the ignition key will not come out without jiggling the gear selector. Also when I go into 'R' The reversing lights and the 'R' on the dash do not always work without jiggling/moving the lever out of R and back into it.
I did do a search but can't find a guide.

Maybe relevant ..??

..." Q: My key is stuck in the ignition. I've tried wiggling it, wriggling it, putting my foot on the brake and moving through the gears. The steering wheel lock is not activated. Help! (Neal from Elgin)

A: (Thanks to Bell Hill Garage for this):"Take the column cowling off and you should see a metal cable with a round eye on/in it, if you move the gear lever in and out of park the end should move!! As you put it into park see which way its moving and give it a little bit of gentle persuasion in that direction to see if its a problem with the cable and not releasing properly so as to let you remove key." ....

Is the gearbox used in another more common vehicle? If so I can do an internet search.

Sounds like the interlock cable which runs from the gear selector to the brake pedal and then to the ignition/steering lock.

Remove the underside of the steering column cowling (3 screws), the bottom dash cover under the steering column(2 screws) and the side plate in front of the centre console( one plastic push in body clip). This will give you access to the cable.

The steering lock end is a cable end ring and sometimes the bracket comes loose so check tightness (10mm socket)
The Brake pedal lock park is a spring loaded assembly with a plastic "pin" which goes through a hole in the pedal bracket and this moves in and out with the brake pedal and makes and breaks the key release by allowing the cable to move or lock. Check that this is as far forward as possible and tight (10 mm socket)
The lever end is a plastic assembly(held in place with a clip...long nose pliers will be needed to pull it out) with a loop end and a
threaded section. The threaded section will not screw in or out to adjust.
To adjust this you need to ease the centre section of the plastic section out(it becomes obvious when you see it but difficult to describe) and this allows adjusting. You will find that there is a spring inside the plastic assembly, so mark the thread with a marker pen/tippex before you slide the centre section out so you can see where you were at the start of the process.
Move the plastic either way to what suits and the interlock system works properly
Reassemble the trim parts.
Check operation of the system at each adjustment/tightening as you may only need to tighten the steering/brake areas and not need to adjust the cable at the lever end
