[*]Hi,
I am heading for my longest trip in the Bongo since purchasing it about 2 months back; the week after next, for up to a week with my son and daughter, 8 and 7. I fancy heading to the west coast.
Wouldn't mind a spot of wildcamping or a nice campsite as well, but somewhere within i wee drive of a fall back option (town/swimming pool?) in case the weather is terrible.
Hoping to catch good weather and do lots of outdoors stuff, general beach combing, spot of fishing and maybe try sme watersports with the kids.
I hav never been to the west coast before apart from a week at Uni on Isle of Raasay so wondered if anyone recommend any nice spots a wee bit off the beaten track to give us some ispiration.
Thanks
Clshandy

I'm on the west coast currently and have stayed at a couple of excellent campsites by some lovely white sandy beaches. Will do some write-ups when back home. If you make it to Lewis, you won't find better than Cnip (Neep) Grazings for £8 a night:

Hi
I can recomend Glen Brittle campsite on Skye.
Beach in font of you, mountains behind, my kids love it there even in the rain.
Big sands at Gairloch is good too, it's a much larger site and has a laundry, playpark and a shop. The veiw from the beach is fantastic.

For wild-camping in the west and north, with some rather nice views to wake up to, you could try some of these....

Loch Linnhe overlooking Ben Nevis

Machrihanish, Kintyre peninsula

Rannoch Moor by the King’s House Hotel

Waulkmill Bay overlooking Scapa Flow, Orkney

Tràigh Allt Chàilgeag, Sutherland

Loch Beg, Isle of Mull

Sailean, Isle of Lismore

Loch Glencoul, Sutherland

Applecross

Uig Sands, Isle of Lewis

Hushinish beach, Isle of Harris

A second vote for Glen Brittle on Skye and some great pics and recommendations from Muz. His pic of Uig though somehow fails to capture the beach. You can park within a yard of this...

Remember the midge repellent, Avon "Skin so soft" or "smidge" (available at tesco's of Scottish tourist board shops.)

Fab photos.
We're hoping to head north this weekend, seeing these makes me wish we were off tomorrow.

Thought I'd resurrect this as planning our next venture from Aberdeen this summer.
Any good suggestions for places from there with kids where we can try out 1) some organised kid (8&9 y.o.) friendly outdoor activities (a mate suggested Loch Tay), and b) any other suggestions for great remote sites/spots.....
Cheers

You need a bit of luck with the weather up there but I agree it is a fabulous place.
Go quick before they close the border!!

We're off this Sunday - setting off from Falkirk to Fort William and then onto Mallig to mooch around Skye and then swing north onto the Mainlaind. Got a week of wildcamping/campsites and can't wait.

We were based close to Oban for a week at the end of March and had great weather. No bongo at the time but just bought one and were planning to go up the west coast and do a bit of island hopping thanks to Calmac and then drive around the north for 3 weeks in July.
