Re: awnings
My Quechua Base Seconds survived a gale on Cornish coast. The great thing is that it flexes and will fold down when under pressure rather than breaking. You would be hard pushed to break one of these.
Re: awnings
The quechua does survive the wind but it does tend to fold especially if the caps are opened out. We were impressed by the vango Kela air that some one had at Gairloch as it didn't budge in the wind. It is pricey but we have just invested in one
Re: awnings
Mine did ok on the Outer Hebrides and the nw Scottish coast this year. Have to say that we were quite lucky with the wind but was impressed none the less.
The good thing is that you can take them down in seconds to if you need to.

We had the Vango Kela at Gairloch and it didn't budge an inch. As said, it is pricey but very easy to put up and down.

Re: awnings
Saw an "outwell country road" awning at the Gairloch, in the worst of the wind and it never moved. It was so much better than our outdoor revolution awning so we bought the Country Road from Ian at the bongo shop. Really pleased with it

Re: awnings
We use a kyham motordome. When we stayed in Fortrose on the beach side site a couple of months ago we experienced a 4 day force 9 gale and according to the site owners "the worst winds they've ever seen" and they've been there a very, very long time.
Have to admit I was worried but the awning came through it no problem at all. By impressed with its strength but also the way it flexed to absorb the winds

Re: awnings
Need to give a thumbs up for the base seconds 2013 model.
With a strategically placed coolbox and crate of beer ours didn't try to join Dorothy or Toto
in the breeze we had at Gairloch.
The older version we used to have did stand up to a reversing Bongo
although it did fold in the wind somewhat

all the same but different

Re: awnings
Same here. My Khyam stood up to two storms in the same week on a hillside campsite on the Isle of Man two years ago.

Now I've got the required number of figure of 8's, (4 or 3 and a bit!) our Kyham driveaway fits the side of the van perfectly.
Still to be storm tested
