Bongo Fury

I've done a search, but nothing quite matches my problem.

Engine running and I had AC fully serviced last week and all was working perfectly. Front and rear.

Fan speed now doesn't work at position 1-3, only kicks in at 4.
The AC light comes on at Position 1 (you can hear the revs rise as well). The AC light goes off (and revs drop) at position 2-4.
The rear heater now doesn't work (front switch shows no light when switched on) fuse under bonet looks in tact

Fuse for AC is OK.

It's a 1996 Freda with manual control AC/heater.

Who's got the answers?

Sounds like the resistor pack has come unsoldered - loads of threads already here - see http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... mit=Search

do a search (top right) put in resister pack. sounds like a soldering job as the front fan is poss seizing up, this puts load on the resister until it pops the soldered joints.
you may need to service the fan motor to stop it blowing again, (1 hour job if it can be saved).

Thanks for the replies peeps. It looks like a bit of work for me this coming weekend (albeit I'm not really mechanically minded, but it seems the Bongo is reasonable to learn on).

Just seems strange a sac light comes on at 1 but off at 2-4. Then the exact opposite for the fan speed.

I'm wondering if I did something when fitting front and rear speakers yesterday. As now in addition the rear offside blind doesn't operate on the switch (front or rear).

If a rear blind switch is not connected, it will knock out the front switch too. Probably the connector is not fully clipped in place.

I'll have to take the rear seats/panels out again then this weekend! I'm a numpty. Should have checked before I put it all back in!

Front blind switch works the offside front blind but not off side rear. The rear offside blind switch doesn't work wither. So what you say makes sense.

If you take the plastic pockets out the panel, you should be able to reach in to get to the back of the switches.

Blind switch sorted (I had reconnected it to a blank white socket that's connected to nothing! Now functioning. Thanks Simon.

Just the Heater/AC to sort out now

Just also seen that the rear heater switch light comes on at the same time the AC light does (position 1 only)

Took apart fan, heater, etc tonight. Great learning curve and I discovered that the resistor did indeed have all the 5 contacts popped off. Will get a new soldering iron tomorrow to repair.

Whilst in there I took out the heater motor and ended up popping the silver cap off. Maybe I shouldn't have done as all the springs/metal blocks (bushes) came out!!! I think I put it back ok, but guess I won't know until I get resistor repaired and test it properly.

Although the fan did spin by hand ok. There wasn't any blockage in the hole beneath the fan (but I made it slightly bigger anyway).

So basically I couldn't see what was causing the resistor to overload

Are there some drainage points above the resistor pack that I should check as well?

NB - I'm loving my new found confidence to 'give it a go' (down to you guys/gals)

Oh and I didn't check the motor with a 12v lead, as I have no idea how to do this. I've got one of those manual dial volt meter things. But it might as well be a a chocolate teapot in my hands.

did you clean the motor and grease bearing

I cleaned out what little particles were in there. But didn't grease the bearing. Admittedly I was too concerned with getting the bushes back in and getting it all back together.

I did solder the resistor tonight. With my newly purchased (and first ever) soldering iron!

Everything is now working tickety boo.
