Bongo Fury

Driving home from Centre Parcs Longleat this afternoon, it was a bit gloomy so on with side lights, some miles later on with dipped beams but..having travelled all the way to the outskirts of Cardiff I only noticed then that I had no dipped beam and only found out as I was in a line of traffic and thought " hello my beams are not shining on the vans rear end" lol, had main beams tho, hope it's just the fuse or connector (s) but too dark to check when we got home. Anyone had this happen at all.

From memory I think headlights are fused individually, ie either side, so I doubt fuse.

Are mains working?

If so I'd investigate relay or contacts on the steering column switch.

Check the headlight plugs that go onto the bulbs.its a known fault that they get dodgy .fix is to replace the plugs only a few quid each

ta guys will check em all just in case, starting with fuse,lol but where is the headlamp fuse(s) and relay are they under the bonnet as I remember,lol been so long, is there an easy way to check the relay, should it click when turned on or summat and...the golden question, one of you geniuses must know of a diagram, which I cant find in search,lol.

Only a single fuse for the head lamps dipped & main, its on the battery connector;

My guess would be the connectors as well.

As said .. generally the bulb holder is a good suspect .. replacements are easily available with the benefit of using a ceramic heat proof type ..

If your bulb holders contacts can be cleaned up .. then you can get ceramic adaptors that simply plug in without soldering / connecting wires ..

IF ... it is a relay / connection problem ... located N/S (passengers side) ..

Just had a look at everything, fuses are ok but, under the bonnet there has been a bare wire hanging (which I have been meaning to sort out), looks like it had fried a little so put a new connecting block, as can be seen hopefullly in the piccie, no luck, changed bulbs and squirted connectors with spray, no luck so poss blown the relay, are they easy and common to get or special to the bongo.

try this..

The relays (by the coolant tank) have rubber covers .. but with the amount of water gushing down the rain 'gulley' and spilling over them .. they are in a vulnerable position

Try spraying with some WD40 .. maybe a light 'smack' will free a 'sticky' solenoid / contacts inside ..

IF .. it is a knackered relay .. head light relays are not vehicle specific .. if you remove yours as a pattern for pin layout / amps .. you should be able to get a matching one from a local car shop even Halfrauds ..

Recent thread on sourcing relays: http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/view ... lit=+Relay. You could swap it with the main beam to see if it's faulty.

All you need is a multimeter or a 12v bulb with a couple of wires on and work your way methodically from the switch to the relay to the bulb holders.

ta guys will try, typical of me tho now I seem to have done summat and the air con panel is blank,lol, gonna have a bite to eat then back at fuse. Right fuse had gone on air con, easy,lol, just the blooming lights now, booked in for monday with my local guy.

All sorted, I have lights once again, took it to my local guy at nearby breakers, he is really good, just picked it up, he said he checked everything basic to start, then took off and cleaned relays, stuck em back on and hey presto.lights,lol. I asked how much..reply " Oh I aint charging for that, only took 30 mins see you next time" now that is service eh. Just advised obvious;y keep an eye on it and if it goes again he will get new relay, well chuffed.
