Good news and Bad news ... looking for help!

Post by AeroNut » Fri Dec 06, 2013 6:22 pm

The good news... my gearbox has finally been rebuilt....
The bad news.. driving it home it seems the coolant pipes have failed and I sat on the side of the road waiting recovery..
The help I need is to understand the coolant pipe routes.. I have a large pool of coolant on the floor just behind the drivers door. looking underneath there are two pipes that turn upwards into the floor. They are very wet....the fluid coming out is definitely engine coolant...
lots of it.....
Any suggestions to start me off?

Scroll down to "HEATER PIPES" and "REAR HEATER PIPEWORK".

Looks like your rear heater matrix could be gubbed or a faulty hose/connector.

Have you checked the level in the header tank.

this coolant is on the deck outside (yes)
if so had same problem.
leak was stopped by adding another jubilee clip
beside original.
did not remove origonal clip as was very tight
and did not want to risk any other damage to hose or connection point

Once you get the pipework sorted, a coolant bleed may be needed!

Really bad luck, Mate.

Worth sticking with Bongy, though. :)

Defintely sounds like the rear heater pipework or the heater itself. I've recently had a similar problem (still not fixed fully). Check both the steel and rubber pipes in addition to the connections. In my experience I've had more problems with metal pipes corroding (not just the Bongo) than rubber failure.

16mm radiator pipe should help make a temp fix and you will definitely need to bleed the system if you break into it around this area. I can't see how it's possible to not let air in.

There are some details of the pipework routes in my thread http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/view ... =3&t=63537 alongside some suggestions on how to bypass the rear heater if that's the culprit. So far I've cut out all the bad metal I can find and replaced with 16mm radiator hose. I still have a very slow leak though that I need to track down before I can say it's fixed (or there was still air trapped after the bleed).

Ah ha...
Found the blighter... The rear heater rad matrix has fallen to pieces (I think)

The full contents of the engine empties itself in less than a minuite..! Directly as I pour it in it comes out almost...

Made a temp' plumbing job to bypass the heater you'd all be proud of??

Now looking for a new rear heater matrix? How hard can that be? :?:

Thanks for you assistance... =D>
