Bongo Security

Hi
No doubt you're aware that Bongos are being stolen more frequently, so here are a few pointers to be aware of when posting on the Forum. Be aware that would-be thieves think of a Forum such as this as a convenient place to look for a new target!!!
** Try to disguise your number plate when showing pictures, especially by a local land-mark
** Don't mention your alarm type or model on here...remember it's a public place, and a thief may find your alarm make and model useful . Make any recommendations to fellow members by P.M.
** Don't mention where you see a fellow Bongo owners vehicle parked regularly
** Don't mention where you work and park, except by P.M.
** Try not to reveal any security devices you may have, except by P.M.
If you can think of any more suggestions, I'll add them to the list
We're all guilty of forgetting the simplest security methods , so a reminder to ourselves is timely, and we surely want to keep our Bongos safe
Cheers
Helen

An old installers trick, was to swap the window stickers given to the customer, so if you had a Clifford fitted, he'd give you Toad stickers etc as different alarms prevent different attacks and just added a little confusion to the mix.

Use a steering wheel lock device.

Hi
I have a removeable steering wheel...that REALLY makes your Bongo hard to steer if you want to keep secure!

Watch out the the Bulgarian thieves don't go and buy one just to nick Helen's van :). It's a good security feature providing the original steering wheel didn't have an airbag otherwise it will be an MOT failure.

Hi
Mine's a non-airbag version, Simon, so you're correct....Regarding thieves going out and getting a quick-release to match mine....not possible, they're like locking nuts...so I can feel safe in mentioning it!...but I certainly wouldn't mention the other devices....
The best security tip is to park where nobody can get a truck in to pull or crane your vehicle onto it, as most pro tea-leafs are not even going to mess with your alarm in a public place...but towing a vehicle looks like a rescue!

Helen, another security tip could be to be mindful of sharing too much information either on the forum or by PM about your own location to new forum members who say they live in your area.

It sounds terribly cynical and I'm not wanting to be disparaging of any genuine new owners and members but as anyone can become a forum member there lies the opportunity for someone to claim to be a new owner in your area and ask if they could they pop round to where you keep your vehicle to see what modifications you've done or how you've fixed a certain problem, knowledge of such matters they may have just gleaned from the forum.

If a new member does want to see what you've done to your vehicle or how you've fixed a problem, offer to visit them or meet somewhere public.

Hi
Quite right too!...
It's been mentioned before about discussing alarm types, where you live, etc. but the point about meeting away from your home is a valid point we've all missed!....I think the "Bongo Crew" are a bit too trusting...
Thanks
Cheers

Best not to have any on the windows make it more difficult.
