Temp Sender

Evening all

Has anyone any experience of the Lucas temp sender for the temp gauge as mine in knackered but need to get it replaced tomorrow so was thinking of going to my local motor factors to get one.

Alternatively I could go to Ford parts and see if they have one for the ranger head as the nearest mazda dealer is 20 miles away.

This will give you an idea of how useless the temp gauge is before the mod. Since we got the freda once up to temp the gauge would show about 11 o'clock, I did the mod with no other changes to find the needle all over the place.

So I decided to check the sender and the centre of the sender is loose in it's housing causing the needle to jump about as it was shorting out.

Cheers

David

Sounds like mine. Drops up and down then goes off.

You can order Mazda one from club shop (although it's closed for a few days) or you can order a pattern part like this:

I believe someone has previously found a part number for a compatible part which should come up with a search.

All sorted now, I used the Intermotor 52551 part from my local motor factors and everything working.

Thanks for the top tip Simon

What's the process for replacing it? Do you have to bleed the system etc?

Yup. As a basic rule of thumb, if you open the cooling system at all, you need to bleed.

Due to the location of this sensor, you shouldn't lose too much coolant, but as it is a direct route for air into the head bleeding is a must.
