Front Propshaft (Rear) Universal Joint

Hi all, had a bit of an issue with a grinding sound, thought it was the exhaust changed that and it's still there. From my landy days it seems like a dry prop UJ.
Have fitted a good few of these so know what I'm doing regarding this.
Only issue is the best way to remove propshaft. It's the rear UJ (the one at transfer box) that's the culprit. Can I just unbolt the prop from the transfer box, drop the prop and split the shaft? Or will I need to remove the whole shaft and centre bearing (Does this involve removing engine cover?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
