Bongo Fury

I am hoping to take my Bongo and my dog on the Euro tunnel to travel to Germany. I can't go on a ferry as the dog has to be kept in the hold for hours and my dog could not cope with that. I just read that Euro tunnel is not accepting LPG vehicles. Is that info correct? Anybody knows?

Definitely no LPG on the tunnel although they do allow gas in camper conversions - go figure

Unfortunately, you have never been able to take vehicles with LPG thru the tunnel and the limit for gas cannisters is 50kg. I was told by someone from the LPG industry that it's not for safety reasons but at the time when the licence to operate the tunnel was granted, there was very few LPG vehicles around so it was never requested.

Obviously the pet situation limits the options, but we paid less that £70 return in the summer for the ferry and that included £20 worth of meal vouchers so damn good value.

Hi ... I heard recently there are now dog-friendly cabins available on some vessels. I will try this as my dogs would hate the hold of a ship, too. Hope that helps.

Yes...Dog friendly cabins....on Greek ferries!....UK is supposedly the pet-friendly nation, but there are more hotels in Europe allowing dogs in bedrooms, and the UK ferries to France won't take dogs except crated on deck or in the hold...Not my cuppa tea!!!

Have you checked the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam for the dog?

You say your dog must be left in the hold......I have been on most ferries and I have either taken them into the public areas with me or at worst left them in the car which they are very happy with as long as toys blankets are included.

On all short channel crossings dogs have to stay in the vehicle. I don't know any UK (overseas) ferry that allows dogs in the public areas, only some in "dog friendly" cabins on long routes.

I'm just looking at all of this for Ireland using that offer mentioned in another thread. With that you can't go on the quick ferry, so it is a fair length of time in either the car or one of their provided kennels. You can't go into public areas. Seeing as our Jessie, is a right Jessie I'm not sure what will be best. I think we're going to have a stressed out dog whichever way!

We have LPG and go via the ferry every year to avoid any hassle. That said I have never seen anybody walking about to see if you have an LPG filler cap.

I take my dog Webster with me into all the public areas on any ferry.





Mind you he is my guide dog.

He also lies at my feet on aircraft, plus they give us front row seats and make a big fuss of him.....he's made 10 flights since Christmas
