Looks interesting for if you're stuck in Bongy due to bad weather, but I just get a feeling this would prove expensive for every meal, and would it boil water for tea?

Instinct says you will still carry a stove as well, but handy for 'Lock Down'.

As for the sales pitch that backpackers and hikers will carry it...

I thought the same...you can see the scene now...mountaineers, back-packers and hikers....spreading out the blanket halfway up a sheer mountain, out with the folding chairs, the portable TV, and the cook box...same with backpackers / hikers, but they probably have room for the folding table as well.....

If you want burners, is there anything that is safe to use inside a Bongo? Thinking carbon monoxide, fire risk, condensation? What precautions do you take? Thinking really of logistics of coffee and bacon sarnie a on a cold morning where you either want to cook inside or leave stuff cooking outside, or for day van use. If not burners, best water boiling device?

Precautions ? Well we tuck the curtain back out the way, maybe open a window a crack, not much you can do about condensation other than plenty of ventilation when the outside humidity level is low! Yes there is always a very small risk of a fire (fire extinguisher carried), Carbon Monoxide well it doesn't happen immediately it takes a while to build up, so unless you seal yourself in and don't have any ventilation at all then its unlikely to be a significant risk.
