We bought an external screen cover from Just Kampers. It fits over the door corners and covers the windscreen and door windows. After a recent wet trip to Derbyshire, the screen section was soaked through including the insulation wadding. It's taken a week to dry it out. Should these screens be waterproof and has anyone else had this problem? We bought the cover as it was easy to fit but it now looks like a set of internal covers would have been better.

I've got one of those and don't recall having problems. I'd contact them to see what they say.

I've got one too, and it's been waterproof through many a soaking.

Sounds like you have a defective one - leaking at a corner or similar, and once the water's in the waterproof outer layer is preventing it drying out.

It appears that the covers are only showerproof. Just Kampers have offered a refund.

I must admit I've never been a fan of external screens as they would have to be put away when wet or damp. Not a problem with a bigger motorhome where there's plenty of storage options for soggy things to be stashed.

I have both but always end up using the external as its less fuss to put in place and does a better job. The wet issue is the same as a side awning: if you have to pack it damp (in its bag so it's ok in da car) then you have to dry and air it at home. Or you can try and avoid wet weekend camping, which I have to confess I try and do

I'm going to try treating the cover with Grangers 'Fabsil' to try and waterproof it. We are in Yorkshire this weekend at Knaresborough so I can test the effectiveness in our wonderful summer weather!

Might I offer a bit of advice?....DON'T use anything with silicon in it, that might get washed onto the paintwork....that also includes fancy car polishes, as if you ever need paintwork done on the car, it's a flipping demon of a job getting rid of silicon deposits, and thus getting paint to stick without blobbing.....gggggrrrr.
Best bet is to treat the external cover as a "lesson learned"....I think it'll put me off buying one!
