Hi all,

just after a bit of info regarding porta loo chemicals.

I've been given a porta loo (Thetford 165), the person who was in charge of its operation has passed away and their partner is having a down size of equipment had nothing to do with its maintenance), so i'm looking for info/advice on using the various chemicals you can purchase.

as I understand it the Blue (formaldehyde) or Green (bio) chemical goes in the bottom tank.(still to work out how much and with how much water)

but I am confused about the top tank flush chemical, it says on the container that it is a disinfects. so if I use it with the bio bottom tank chemical will it make the bottom tank chemical ineffective?

any help appreciated,

cheers in advance

You're pretty much on track.

If you buy chemicals from the same manufacturer they will be compatable.

I just put a capful or so in the holding tank and no water - there is plenty of liquid going in there anyhow so why fetch water just to carry it back to the disposal.

Top tank quantities/ dilution will be on the bottle.

To be honest if you empty the tank daily, and this is a good campsite habit, you can get away without chem in the holding tank.

I find an old Fairy Liquid bottle makes a good additional flush, the squeezy type that you can get some pressure behind.

I love a bargain however have never found a cheap chemical set I like the smell of and keeps everything sparkling. Would be interesting to try the Aldi ones, as other bits from there are good.
