egr again

Thought I would check my egr pipe today while I was checking oil ect. Found the pipe at the egr end, which had already been cut, or chewed off by a rat , but had not been blanked off. So where do I find the take-off point from the manifold ? I had a good poke around but could find nothing on either side of the engine. Could someone point me in the right direction ?

The EGR actuator/diaphragm is operated by an electrical solenoid very close to the EGR valve - why not just plug up the gnawed pipe?

Thanks Dandy,
Am now slightly confused, cos if the egr is electrically operated what does the rubber tube do?

IIRC the electrically operated solenoid generates vacuum to the diaphragm at the right moment. By blocking the tube the diaphragm stays closed.

Thanks Ian,
I had thought that the egr ran off the inlet manifold creating a vacuum so by cutting the tube it would have left one end flailing around sucking fresh air.
Thanks guys.
