Probably depends on the extent of the rust that needs to be cut out I would think, if caught early enough the smaller ones seem adequate.

Yes depending of extent of rust you just cut and add the amount you need.
There is a chap making fibreglass replacement arches with a built in step so you can cut out the rust and slot them in and fill them, he sent me pictures somewhere but I decided I didn't like that route but it may suit plenty who want to have a go without welding.

Any one with a full kitchen conversion, gas bottles etc should seriously concider, trying the fibreglass method, as it would eliminate having to strip the whole lot out to avoid a potential fire hazard when welding,

Ah, photo's added of using the larger format Sprinter arches, no difference really just the availability and amount of rust to be replaced!

Excellent point. I think the fiberglass option merits more attention ;-)

Wheel arches replaced and bongo resprayed down both sides from windows down. Very happy with work. Took a while to get it in and done but worth the wait. Cost £1000. Have had the underside waxoiled too to protect it as it turns out it's never been done. Fortunately she's absolutely solid underneath so we should get many more miles out of her.

And now for the very exciting news.............! We've just dropped her off as she's taking a holiday in Caerphilly for a week or so to have a complete refit inside! Celtic Motor Homes have taken charge of her for a complete new side conversion with rock'n'roll bed! Hoping to collect her next weekend. All the units have been made and were waiting to be fitted when we left. She's in the very best of hands! You can follow her progress on Facebook under their name as they will be putting pictures up on each step of the conversion.

I can't wait! I can't ant wait! I can't wait!!!! =D>

Ed's work is second to none. Not the cheapest maybe but the difference is more than worth it. Please send pics of respray and conversion when all done, so we can have a drool.

Hi
Does anyone have details of the chap who supplies the fibreglass wheelarches with a step in them ?
I have been quoted £ 950 for fitting, fettling and spraying a pair of vito wheelarches, however I have rubbed them down before and I don`t think that they are that bad. I would therefore like to have a go myself and use the fibreglass method, I am not after a pristine finish.

Regards
Pete

Interesting to see the respray/rust/wheelarch discussion from 2015... How did all your repairs/resprays turnout? Has the rust been held at bay?

I spent last two summers trying to keep on top of the first bits of rust here and there. Gutters (spotweld points) were stripped, jenolited, primed and spray canned, and one rear arch was touched up, but as I can't get access to a garage it was all done outside on dry days - and 2 years on it's now started to reappear, so I'm angling around for quotes for repair/replace and resprays. It's not bad from what I can see, but want to get it done professionally before it gets any worse. Seen their work on some old hotrods and quality cars (1983 Opel Mantra Rally etc...) and they turned out brand new.

Will probably need work on two rear arches, bottom of door drain holes, bit of sill work, engine compartment will be done and cross members too. Rust cleaning found a couple of holes in the roof above the gutters and poked an endoscope in  ... Bits of rust all along so think cut out worst spots and waxoyl the inside. Etchprime and respray. Two quotes for lower half and then full job ... Not cheap but limited options north of Hadrian's Wall ....

Any insider info/hints/tips to pass on to the guys doing it? Or to me?
