HELP: Where can I buy BMW clock bulb

Hi gang

The bulb in my BMW cubby clock has gone. Does anyone know where I can get one (preferably like the original, with a slot on the base of the holder that allows it to be positioned and turned in the holder. Also, my clock has an orange glow but I'd prefer a green glow like the dashboard lights - is this possible to do just via choice of bulb. I'd be grateful for any pointers.

I've had a search on BF but can't find clear guidance on this.

Thanks as ever :-)

I had the same problem and decide not to pay £6-7 (ebay) for a new bulb so I removed the old bulb from the plastic holder and replaced it with a 12V LED which just fits... Needs some careful soldering with a fine tipped soldering iron but not too hard

Hi,

Yeah, and just look at all the weird coloured led's you can get - anybody fancy an aquamarine, pink or purple clock? And if you wanted to go really "Bristol Bob" you can probably get automatic colour changing ones now.
If anybody does change the bulb for an led, most of them need a series resistor. Around 1k should do.

Peter

We do green blue and white bulbs. Standard BMW is white but appears red due to a red plastic lens....if you fit a LED bulb remember they are polarity sensitive...ie...if you fit one and it doesn't work ...rotate 180 degrees and refit... If you want to fit a different colour you will have to remove the red plastic lens..this means pulling the clock to bits.....or send it to me.

Thanks for all the pointers everyone and for the advice to contact Jo Haydn, which I'll follow up (along with the bolt for the TM2). Do you offer the bulb and holder, just so I don't have to get involved with any tricky soldering? For simplicitys sake I reckon I'll just stick with the standard BMW orange light as its fine really. Really appreciate everyone's help :-)

Big thanks to Jo. Phoned her today and she's putting a bulb in the post and a bolt so I can mount my TM2 alarm sensor in the approved standard position, cost very reasonable and so much simpler than trying to identify and order with confidence (that last bit is whats hardest) via ebay etc. Have to say everything about the Haydn way of customer service and commitment to quality is admirable. My LCA is now nearly 9 years old and apart from needing two replacement sensor screws recently has been 100% reliable. Not many of my cheap Chinese ebay purchases have matched that, sadly. Someone should do a TV series about the danger of putting cheap components into critical systems - before its too late :?  8)

Just had the bulb blow again and it turns out a standard 509T bulb fits - I got one from Halfords for £2.50 but you can get LED versions in various colours on ebay etc.

Much easier to find and a lot cheaper than the BMW part which I think is 62131383311 and seems to cost around £10

Yep! You can get LED ones on eBay....that's where we get ours from in various colours.
BUT. For the new bulb colour to show you must first dismantle the clock ( if you haven't dismantled one before you will almost certainly destroy it ) and remove the built in red filter. As standard the clocks have a clear bulb and glow red/orange.
Also remember LED bulbs are polarity sensitive. Also led bulbs are generally 2 volt.....you need one with built in resistor to upgrade to 12 volts.
You could send it to us to convert for you.
