Bongo Fury

Hi all,

Had our Bongo now for a years.
We have some rust on the rear arches. Unfortunately there is no way we have the spare money to get this job done.
So a patch up job is my option.

Does anyone know please where to get or recommend some wheel arch trims. So I can cover it up and at least make it look a bit better.

there seems to be 3 types doing the rounds

some black plastic or chrome finish ones that are on ebay and around the 60 - 70- quid mark - the only comment I have found is they are ok - you get what you pay for

another set from van x - ebay or their own website - primed painted plastic - look ok - but no comments yet

and theres the original mazda sets - a bit hard to come by - and expensive - but as far as I am aware - quality



personally I would go for van x option - spray them what ever colour and glue or silicone them on

obviously not going to stop whats rotting - but a cheaper fix to tart her up

I do like the van x type

I've already made a feature out of mine, rather as if they had arch trims. You could easily take the cosmetic effect further. The difference is that this approach tackles the rust and attempts to stem it rather than just covering it and letting it fester. V cheap to do also. Allow 1-2 days for each arch I'd say, if you're a slow worker like me.

ITS OK ME TAKING THE MICKEY - but ive got an angry go faster grill to put on - but before I do - I want to spray it anthracite grey etc

its in very good nick - but I might as well give it a coat of the good stuff before I show here off lol

I tried to over cook my last grill with spray paint - patience is the key lol - let the last coat dry before you do the next

OW NO not me - faster - faster owwww sh*t

2 days I had to wait to sand her down a little



I do respect you all that have little diy projects and have that special patience

I cant sleep if it takes longer than a day lol

I might yet do that, and if I do I'l know its a solid repair underneath

Hi Silvern, saw your link - trims look great. We've got the same X-Van wheel arch trims but haven't fitted them yet. I would be interested to know how you attached yours (no instructions came with ours!).

Yes, no instructions with mine either - just a bag of rivets and some mounting holes on the parts. Initially I tried bonding them on with 3M VHB tape (super strong double sided foam tape) to avoid using screws or rivets, but it was difficult to get even contact and a secure fit. In the end I removed the tape, marked up where the holes are, drilled into the arch and screwed them on. My arches are rusting on the lip anyway. If these trims tidy it up for a few years that'll be fine. I just can't justify the money required to cut them out and get new arches welded in.

Am I reading this correctly or is Rita pulling our leg ?
Are these trims made of steel and if so could they be welded on over our original arches and maybe mounded using weld , fibre glass and filler to help fully repair the arches ?
It would make for a good and economic repair yes ?
