That's exactly what happened to mine, the speaker had new wires strapped to the top of the existing flexy bit, the wires had been repaired by someone else followed by near total failure of everything else.
While the loom could have been fixed, a new one was easier, at least it has in-built speaker leads!
Did I forget to mention the passenger window failing to operate from the driver's side? The driver's window was the only thing remaining operative in the end.

Finally got round to sorting. £150 for a mobile auto electrician repaired all of the wiring, replaced various strips and protective out casing and done. Hassle free no need for a new loom. Worth a punt!!!
