Bongo Fury

Hey all,

I wondered if this was normal - when parking up, our rear electrics (lights, water pump, anything that runs from the leisure battery) sometimes wont work straight away. If we wait a few (5 -10) mins , everything starts to work. This doesn't always happen. I wondered if it might be something to do with how the leisure battery charges?

Its not a huge problem as it works eventually but I wonder if it is indicative of a wider issue with the electrics, or expected behavior. Anyone have any ideas?

For starters It would probably be worthwhile removing the battery leads and cleaning the posts and clamps. Also check the fuse connection from the battery is clean and secure.

It shouldn't be like that, can't quite envisage what could be causing it other than bad connections but not every time! As Rita suggests try cleaning the battery terminals and also check the blades of the fuses for corrosion. If your Split Charge Relay has a light or you can hear it click when operating/releasing it might be worth checking for this to see if it coincides with power appearing, otherwise I can only think that someone has fitted a rather odd system that maybe switched off the power to the conversion when the LB is charging or something weird like that!

If it it isn't a dodgy connection, then the only thing I can think of is if it has a 'battery guard' type device fitted. They are meant to protect against low voltage and cut everything off to stop you damaging the battery.

Perhaps it has one fitted that has become faulty? Or it has one fitted that also protects against over voltage?


I'd be checking the voltage of both batteries whilst the vehicle is running, then immediately after turning off, then 5 - 10 mins later when all starts to work.
