I have not had the pressure checked as I was told if the oil light goes out on start up, it is ok! My friend who owns his own garage took the sump off and found no sludge or anything like that. Tiny bit of swarf though. Still disheartening though. Bloody love my Bongo :(

Sorry that is not how it works, the light going out at start up only means that you have at least 6/7 PSI oil pressure (it only takes this amount of pressure to put the Light Out, personally (in these circumstances)if I went to the trouble of removing the sump I would have changed the oil pump valves, Can you not get your friend to check the pressure and run a gauge over the HLAs.

Take care.

The engine manual specifies:
"J5-DE Standard value - 314 -529kPa (3.2 - 5.4kgf/cm2) - 3000rpm"
it does also warn that oil viscosity may affect pressure.

My 1997 V6 is a bit noisey on the top end as the Hydrolic lifters are noisey. Worst on start up improving once warmed up. I have used a product made by Wynnes specificly to help hyrdolic lifters & it does make a differance, well did in my case anyway. The van still runs well so living with it at the moment.
