Breakdown insurance for Ireland.

My breakdown insurance covers me for Northern Ireland but not for the Republic, I have to take European cover. They don't normally cover vehicles over 15 years old but said they will consider it if I can send them 5 years service history and at a cost of £167 for three weeks. I can do the history thing but it will mean sifting through receipts, then scanning them and sending by email.

Anyone succeeded in getting cover for Ireland at a reasonable cost and without this hassle? Bongo is 20 years old now.

Or should I just chance it and not bother?

We were lucky and the AA covered us for the two weeks we were there for no extra. At those prices you've been quoted might be cost effective to change to them!

Thanks roosmith. Yes, I think I should have done more research - I certainly will when it comes up for renewal (not until December unfortunately).

Quotelinedirect have been used.

A skip through this search may find others, apart from AA. http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/sear ... mit=Search

Tanks Chris, I'll have a look at that when I get a minute. Retirement?... I'm busier now than when I was working...!

A quick update - gone with the AA. Slightly more expensive than what my current insurers quoted but I don't have the hassle of having to supply service history.
