Tyres - Fitted and Spare Different

Good afternoon,

My 4WD diesel has four 215/65R/16 tyres on alloy wheels. I've only just looked at the spare and it is a 195/70R/15 on a steel wheel.

My queries are:

In the event of a puncture, is a 195/70R/15 acceptable or not?

If yes:

Is there a distance limit (i.e. get to a tyre fitter quickly)?

If no;

Does the spare tyre need replacing or both spare tyre and wheel?

Will a 215/65R/16 tyre/wheel fit in the spare mounting bay?

Thanks in advance for any answers or advice, regards and enjoy the rest of the bank holiday.

No, they are not compatable. Difference in diameter is 4.89% and should be less than 1%. This difference could ruin your viscous coupling.
Spare tyre will need replacing with a 215/70 x 15.
16" wheel should fit in the spare bay.

John,

Many thanks for your time taken in getting back to me. Can I just check one thing, did you mean to say 215/70/15? Or is your rationale that a 215/70/15 spare is in tolerance with the main 215/65/16s?

Regards,

Yes - 215/70 x 15 will fit your spare wheel and will give a diameter very near to your alloys wth 215/65 x 16 tyres.
You can check for other suitable sized tyres here http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html
