Bongo Fury

Hello Bongo comrades,

Just wondering if anyone knows of anyone private who carries out resprays? As in, not a company but someone who does it from home etc. I'm based on the Isle of Wight but willing to travel.

Quite tricky to do it from home, what with elf & safety, and need for dust/insect free room that can be kept at the right temperature (plus tall enough for a Bongo to enter)? I found some small paintshop businesses that couldn't cope with size of the Bongo

Yes have to agree a couple of business we have used in the past with cars had no way of tackling a Bongo simply because there units couldn't handle the height.

Due to the unknown quality of having this done 'At the side of the road' I'd use the travelling time researching how to spray and consider having a go.

There's got to be lots of You Tube videos and other info available.

I think it really comes down to biting the bullet, or not. The respray is purely for aesthetic purposes as there is no rust. I just always wanted the factory white and purple! 2.5k plus is a big ask for that though isn't it

You could in theory save yourself a bit of money by stripping and doing the basic prep work yourself and having it trailered to the paint shop, but then you run the risk of damage putting stuff back on.

Having a good spray job done is time consuming and body shops have had to make a huge capital investment spray booths, which has to be paid for. Paint is also very expensive stuff these days. I know the cost of a complete colour change on something the size of a Bongo sounds a lot, and you could probably find a cheaper quote if you hunted around, but do bear in mind that the quality varies vastly.

I love non standard paint jobs and I've done a couple, but it is definitely not a job for the faint hearted and to do the job to a decent standard will take a lot longer than you expect. But it is possible.

Also bear in mind that if you have to sell, a non standard colour might have reduced appeal and could adversely affect the value.

Very well summed up, sadly!

A complete colour change is a big job, and how far do you go spraying all the bits that only show when you open the bonnet/doors/roof/lift a carpet?...

With the cost running at £2500 its almost worth part exing for the colour you want, but if yours is all good I'd probably live with it.

You could go for the "cheap & cheerful" option and have it vinyl wrapped!

There are some things in life that you know you have to do, even though your wallet might scream "ouch"
