Spare wheel

Hi,
I'm a new Bongo owner and have already learnt a lot from the forum.

I am trying to replace my space saver spare wheel with something more substantial but its proving trickier than I hoped.

This is complicated slightly by the fact that I bought my Bongo from a dealer who had put aftermarket alloys on it (which look smart!) but which are 255/45/R18 in size.

From searching on the web it appears that the Bongo originally came with this spec of wheels:
15 inch x 6.0. Offset 40. Bolt pattern – 5 x 114.3
Bore – 67.1

Further searching has led me to the conclusion (rightly or wrongly?!) that the following spec wheel would act as a more substantial spare:
Alcar KFZ 6655 - 6,50J x 16, 5 x 114.3, offset 42.5, central bore 67
http://www.oponeo.co.uk/steel-wheel/alc ... 5#19283146

assuming that I put a 235/60 R16 tyre on it - this seems to match very closely with the circumference of my existing wheels.

However when I ordered such a wheel online the supplier asked me what vehicle it was for - and when I said a Bongo Campervan they said they had no wheels homologated for my vehicle. They will supply me with the wheel but only if I send them an email absolving them of responsibility if it doesn't fit properly. Now I am unsure how to proceed, but remain keen to get a better spare wheel solution than the existing space saver.

Any advice on whether my proposed solution would work or not would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Stephen

Welcome aboard.

Consider a 15" original steel wheel as a spare.

Just check the rolling circuferance is the same the ones you have fitted, but this is far less important if yours is 2WD. :)

Thanks,
I had considered trying to source an original wheel - but just thought buying a new steel wheel online would be simpler / quicker.

Thanks again

There's a set of 4 going for £50 in the Small Ads, or ask on Stuff Wanted.

Otherwise breakers like Bongospares.
