Dear The Times.
3 December 05.55 and across the airwaves came the dulcet tones of Noddy Holder and his rendition of "Its Christmas".
Wondrously followed By Kirsty MacColl and the oral hygienist from The Pogues..
Is this a record?
Yours
Disillusioned of Morden

Waiting with bated breath for the Drummer Boy....
Ear defenders with the antler horns anyone?

A friend of mine was talking with noddy holder recently. Noddy advised the song was recorded in sweltering heat in the Caribbean. Every Christmas, it yields him a royalty cheque of around £2m or so. Noice!

I always had him down for a good man. I used to do a lot of work at Walsall (County Hotel). Great place, great folk.

Hi,

He gave me a lift once years ago. I was between paying jobs and was doing some work as a trade plater (professional hitch hiker) and he stopped for me, I think it was on the A34 near Winchester. Green TVR I think. Didn't realise who he was at first, but the accent gave him away after a few minutes (I was never a Slade fan) and he was a really nice guy. Chatty, polite, good company, sense of humour and no trace of ego. Wish all my chauffeurs could have been like that.

Back to the thread - does anybody else have the feeling that marketing forces are making the Xmas credit card bonanza longer every year?

Peter

I remember a wonderful Noel Coward send up that Stanley Baxter did on his Xmas show back in the 70s, where he sang the lines "Why don't we pack in Christmas, why don't we call it quits." while he answered the doorbell to carol singers with a shotgun. Atrociously, totally politically unacceptably funny. Someone should put it out as a Xmas single

Fantastic you finding that. Priceless, and even better than i remembered it - had me in stitches. Noel Coward would have approved. I had wondered if it might be on youtube but thought nah nobody will have bothered to keep the tapes. Stanley Baxter - comedy genius and much missed still.

Yes great performer.
This is my favourite.
All rings true today as well. Check out the Wizard of Oz sketch.
Nobody does satire like this anymore sadly.

So true (witness this thread). Curious really that re-runs aren't being pumped out on a tv channel. He was pure class.
