Bongo Fury

Hi, anyone know where I can get a set of extra long plugs for my Bongo? Seems my engine has non standard plugs. Something to do with a modified rail they fit in. My plugs are 105mm long.

snap. it appears that they are only available direct from japan. there is no compatable glowplugs available in the uk or eu.
ive tried quite a few places with no luck so resorted to just putting in the standard glows in and modifying the rail. so far no probs but only changed them on thursday.

I suspect this part may be available from Mazda main dealers only or may not be imported in to the UK (not listed in Denso's UK catalogue). There is very little data available for glow plugs and therefore I would not be confident in suggesting any alternative parts. Best I can advise is that you contact a Mazda main dealer or see if you can find a supplier in Japan willing to export.

Can't help you I'm afraid. According to my suppliers these longer plugs are not available in either UK or EU and have to be sourced directly from Japan. You might be better off "de-modifying" the glow plug rail to allow the proper 83mm plugs.

hi its mike actually, rob was one of the guys i was talking to.
all i did was put the new glow plugs in and bend over the bit of the rail nearest to the engine. then covered the edge with insulation tape to prevent any arcing across to the engine.also using the old nuts i packed off the stems of the new glowplugs so that the rail was as high and as far away as possible from the head.
the new ones certainly glowed a lot more.

Thanks for the info. My plugs have done 66000 miles I think it's time for a change. I don't have a starting issue at the moment but then again I don't want one.

I got a friend of mine to make me up these extention pieces which I can screw onto the short plugs thus making them longer,

Or, try the RS catalouge, book 3 page 195, item8, last and last but one from bottom of page item no.
222 - 496
222 - 503
Tapped through female to female threaded spacer-just put a 4mm engineers screw into the top to secure the rail.


Book 3 page 122, item 1, M4 x 6mm or M4 x 12mm with external shakeproof washer

Hi Ken, been hunting all over Bournemouth & Poole for those M4 spacers with no luck.

Like you say RS do them but you have to buy in packs of 50 which is a bit over the top when you only need 4.

Maybe I could sell the rest on eBay

I've re-opened this topic again because I need some info. I've had a few enquiries from people with the longer plugs, and when I've pointed them in the direction of the RS components site (http://www.rswww.com) people have been getting confused as to which spacers and which blots they should be ordering. So I thought I would get them in stock here at the club and send them out to people as required (we can get 100 in). But I need to know

1) Which spacers should I get? 20mm (222-496) or 25mm (222-503)?
2) Which screws should I order? What's the RS code number?

Anyone able to tell me if I can spot if my new Bongo has the modified rail so that I can make necessary preparations BEFORE my glow plugs demise? (maybe a picture ofa modified rail?).

Dont want a small thing like this to stop my Bongoing! Esp. if it happens on holiday etc.

Ian, I have a RS Components A/C so can obtain the bits if you have difficulty.

I can look for the details on-line later this weekend.
