Finally took the plunge so I'm sure you'll be hearing from me, N reg, high mileage 4wd but local van with only one owner so let's be positive and have some fun and stop worrying myself to death with head gaskets and the like

Excellent, and welcome. There's a case for saying if it got to high mileage without head issues, it might not now get them, unless something goes wrong with the coolant system.
