Mazda RX8 Spare wheel

Hi all, Running Mazda RX8 Wheels, has anyone tried fitting one of these in place of the space saver spare?

Came out to check the van and to my horror had a puncture in the sidewall on the day before a early morning booked ferry to the Isle of White! Nowhere could I get hold of a replacement tyre needed the same day, but lucky for me I managed to find someone who would repair it for me.

After this little scare I would like to carry a proper spare!

I run RX8 alloys and keep a full size steel wheel as a spare. I made sure the rolling diameter is the same, despite the wheel itself being smaller than the RX8. Obviously the tyre width is slightly different, so not perfect, but better than a space saver and cheaper than having a spare alloy underneath the van.

You can use a tyre size calculator like this one to check rolling circumference:

This is vital on a 4wd or you will cobble the transmission, not that vital on a 2wd.

I'm not sure about repairing a sidewall puncture. :?

A full size spare will certainly fit on the bracket. :)

The RX8 alloys will fit as a spare as I replaced my spacesaver with one the other day :) as I have a spare set of alloys lying around.
